Groomed really helped me personally to further understand the mixed emotions of a survivor of sexual abuse. The raw anger shocked me, although on reflection of course there is anger – it just seems rarely seen. The play touched on themes surrounding crafting identity after being groomed, and generously even gave a perpetrator a voice. I feel honoured to have been present while such a talented genius shared his reflections and feelings.
I am hoping that as a social work student I can keep in mind the message of presence, touch and acceptance. I hope that those putting on the performance feel heard. I will keep working towards a future supporting survivors.
